Weekend Update!
Had a great weekend, hope everyone else did too! Friday night we took Ricks daughter out to dinner and a movie to celebrate her great report card. We saw the movie “Sahara”, which was very cute and funny in an “Indiana Jones” kind of way.
Sunday we got up and went for a drive! Woot! Did you know I love to “do stuff”? Yep, I do! So we drove up to my very most favorite restaurant, the Log Cabin Inn, for Sunday Brunch.
The Princess loved her boot cup. The food was excellent, as usual. Marionberry pancakes…..yum! The Inn was built in 1886, and the guest books contain the signatures of famous folk like Clark Gable, Herbert Hoover, and the Duke of Windsor.
After brunch, we headed up to Belknap Hot Springs, my favorite spot in the great state of Oregon. The gardens here are spectacular. Remember, you can click on these and make them bigger!
This place is full of ghosts for me, of Bob, of course, but also of my children, when they were younger, in middle school, and high school. Back when they were a part of my everyday life, when my days were spent taking care of them. The ghosts from that old life are here, in every corner. Happy ghosts, that make me smile while they break my heart.
This place has been my sanctuary for so long. I can feel my soul being renewed in the short time we hike around.
And then, there’s that tree, the one in the middle of the picture. Years ago, Bob and I were walking together in the gardens, when a downpour caught us by suprise. We huddled together under that tree, laughing, talking, enjoying each others company. We felt like the only people on earth, with only the sound of the rain around us, the tree keeping us from getting drenched. From that day on, it was “our” tree, and everytime we passed it, we would stop and give each other a hug and a kiss.
Now, whenever I pass that tree, I give it a big hug, and drink in the melancholy feeling it gives me. I usually close my eyes and listen to the voices. Bob yelling for the net as he catches a fish, the kids laughing and teasing each other as they sit on the bridge doing homework, our dog Penny, splashing in the water………..playing frisbee in the meadow, s’mores over the campfire ……….sigh …..precious, precious memories of a life now gone.
This time, as I hug “our” tree, Rick and the Princess make me laugh as they exclaim in unison -”tree hugger!” New memories to lay beside the old.
Rick feeling up the locals……….
After hiking around, we spent about an hour in the hot springs, altogether now……….ahhhhhhhhhhh!
After we got nice and warm, with a new appreciation for how Lobsters feel. Aren’t they so cute?!
World’s whitest legs………….wonder who’s they are?
Rick puts in his submission for world’s whitest legs, but he doesn’t even come close……….Guess we’ll have to enter him in the “Knobby Knee” competition.
So, that’s how we spent our weekend, hope everyone else had a great time too!

You’re memories ARE sweet. How fortunate for you that you have them and how truly fortunate that you have new one from someone who loves you as well.
I love the pics. They really express happiness and fun. A family sharing itself with one another is the best.
Ah girl…your ”tree hugger” story is so touching. Love the photos, especially the white legs pic!
Having trouble typing… can’t see… blinded…
I think my legs are almost as white… if it weren’t for all this red hair.
Wow… that is really a great weekend trip. Make me want to take the family exploring! I like the ‘tree-hugger’ story too!
I ADORE Sunday brunches. Breakfast is my most favorite meal of the day. It’s got all the fun foods in it!
I grew up in Colorado and our family used to stay at this bed and breakfast in Idaho Springs and we while there we spent lots of time in the hot-springs. Even as a child/teen, I found it very relaxing.
Listen, we were watching Globe Trekker this weekend on my favorite station: PBS and they were covering part of the Pacific NW. One of the cities they covered was Portland. I am now in love w/Portland OR. What a neat little city! Many advantages to living there and being friendly to the environment.
RYC: Do not be intimidated by the monkey. I’m better this afternoon, kinda. Working on it.
What a great weekend, and how luck are we that you shared it with us? You are quite the nature girl. I love that about you.
Yeah, white legs, at least you aren’t all brown and wrinkly.
I have a tan. :nanana:
I enjoy that you chronicle your weekend adventures in pictures. More people should do that. And take pictures with bear statues.
What a lovely lovely place.Just the kind of place I’d love, and the hot springs, how sexy! Tree hugger, made me smile, smile because I know that now you are happy. RITA
Hehe :moon:
Wow, what a great weekend. Love your pics, beautiful. And the white legs, I could definately compete!
What a great get-away spot. The hot springs look very inviting. I love your comments on your memories…the old ones making you smile as they break your heart, and laying new ones down beside the old. You express those mixed emotions so well.
Can I ask you a technical question? (I’m going to ask anyway)…how do you do that “click to enlarge” thing with your pictures…is that a Xanga premium-only benefit? If it is, it just might convince me to go premium!
I’ll see your white legs and raise you! Girl, either the picture doesn’t do them justice or those ARE NOT the world’s whitest legs because mine are much, much whiter! I’m so white I glow in the dark. When I have a bad headache, I cannot even wear shorts because my legs are so bright that the glare hurts my eyes! The only color to my legs are from a) the freckles scattered around from sunburns of my youth and b) the blue roadmap of veins visible through my translucent milky white skin!
Mmm, those pancakes sound delicious. I wasn’t sure what a marionberry was so I googled it. They sound like the perfect blackberry. Yum, yum, YUM. I want some! Thanks for sharing your photos. Once again I feel like I’ve tagged right along with you. You better be careful – you’re going to make all of us hop in our cars and head for your place over the summer! Love, Jill
Thats it… I’m coming up there to live…its so beautiful!!!!
Remind me again what church’s to stay away from…LOL
love the pics (((hugs)))
What a beautiful place! Looks like you had a great time. When I was reading your hug the tree part of the story, I was thinking I would leave you a comment and call you a tree hugger, and then I scrolled down and read that someone already thought of that…
RYC: I have three kids…you’re very smart figurin’ that all out on your own! Lady Caity is 15, then Mystery Man, 13-1/2, and then Spidey, 7. Mystery man is a mystery. That’s why I don’t write about him too often.
maybe one day I’ll devote a blog to him….
Take care you! ~D~
You can have the child if you want it. I’m not sure I’d know what to do with one unless it was covered in fur and I could teach it to pee/poop in the back yard in a matter of weeks!
New site and new start! This is jackie used to known as babyjmloca
Just wanted to let you know I am still here.
LMAO at the whitest legs… I’m a contender… I used to do the tanning booth thing all year… (in moderation) I miss money! (whimpers) Thank you for sharing these! Coming here always makes my day! (((hugs)))
Looks like the weather held out for you guys! That’s terrific! Beautiful pictures!
RYQ – No, no Bunco. Ervin has to go to Sun River. I was told that he was gonna get out his list and call us and see if we wanna do it another day this month? Bummer, huh? - Option #2 for you and Rick… You guys are invited over to my house this Thursday for potluck at 7pm (mexican food theme) and Survivor at 8pm. Sue, Rod and Serena should be here. I’m not sure about anyone else…
Great pictures honey, and such happy/sad memories. I teared up just reading this, you’ve such a way with words :waaahh: and you selpl rael good too!~K.K.
FYI: I’m just now making my rounds and this is the time I usually make them. . . from here until about 10 my time.
Thankyou for the birthday wish.
TOOTLES
Oh no, I didn’t think you wre whining at all. . .no no, that was ME this morning, and I apologise.~K.K.
Ok. I’m crying. I know. I’m sappy like that. Your stories of your times with Bob are so tender and filled with love. I love reading them. If we could only bottle the love you feel for him then we could spill it into the world’s reservoirs! You have a treasure of memories. And you’re making more with Rick.
RYC: My Ubby will be taking pics and I’ll tell him NOT to come home unless he has a pic of Mr Rather so I can post it.
Thanks for your lovely comments. You’re one of the ones that can cheer me. However, you also make me cry.
Oh yeah! I’m happy you had a wonderful weekend with your lily-white legs! You’re too much! Showing us Rick’s assets! You know… that bear looks mighty happy there!
I missed you too! Blew kisses toward Eugene both ways on the plane. Thought of you again as we blew through Fresno, lol. Lots of San Joaquin memories in my blog today….
It is beautiful to watch the melding of your past and present lives as it happens. Rick sounds like quite a guy, and you are the best (my legs are quite possibly whiter than yours).
I also want to know how to do that clickable picture trick.
You always post great pics…if thats up by where you live, then Terry & I need to come experience some of the scenery up that way. I’m glad you all had a great weekend. As for your white legs…well you & I would run a tight race
Have a good week!
Knobby knees indeed! :tsktsk: :moon: :bigbounce:
Great minds think alike. We saw the same movie. :2beers: I have a boot glass just like that I got about 20 years ago when I was in college. I was drinking a hot apple drink out of it in the local country western bar. Looks like you had a fun weekend.

stumbled onto your blog while visiting another. It is wonderful that you can go back to places and make new wonderful memories with someone new while still keeping the old so near and dear to your heart.
We really need to have a contest cuz I would give you a run for your lily white money! I tell people around SO CAL that God made me this white so they will all look browner as they all try so hard to be! I am finally coming to terms with my lily-ness. We are pure?! I wish I could visit your beautiful part of the world! Thanks for the snap shots!! emlee
Did she get to keep the boot mug, and does your man make it a habit to feel up the wildlife??
