  • The 80′s……………..

A bunch of folks in the “Adult’s” blogring are talking about what they were doing in the 80′s, so here’s my input.  I seem to be about 3 or 4 years older than everybody else doing it! Darn it!

In 1981, I graduated from High School, Bob was in college and a deputy Sheriff.

This Senior pic of mine is kinda dog-eared, that’s because it’s the one Bob carried in his wallet for 20 years.  I have his wallet in a little dish by his urn, plus a few small things of his.  The photo of him is at a frat party.  They’re making the pledges do push-ups all in a row.  Everybody’s wearing a funky get-up, and I think he’s cute as a button in his shorts and boots!

Here he is with his car, #31, I still have the key tag for this patrol car on my key-ring.  Someday I’ll let one of the kids have it, I guess.

This is my mom, when I told her we wanted to get married………..

We were married in August of 1982, I was 19, he was 26.

We were members of a very strict Pentecostal religion, and did not have TV’s or listen to secular music, so I don’t have those types of touchstones for memories.  All I know is everyone was talking about some wild woman named Madonna.

Summer of 83, in the yard of our second place to live.  Yes, the sprinkler is on.  Yes, he was nuts like this all the time.

This photo was taken in June of 84, we had just found out we were expecting our first child the day before.

February of 85, our daughter was born, life changed…….

June of 86, our boy arrives, 16 months later to the day, all eleven plus pounds of him.  I am told I cannot have anymore kids by the doctor, I am fine with that!  Send Bob to vet…….

We splurge and buy a bigger car………..

Summer of 87, spent raising a family, teaching them how to spit watermelon seeds…….

In 1988, we opened a business like a Mail Boxes, plus gifts.  This is me with one of my employees behind me, her name was Karen.  We had the only fax machine in town.  I remember I paid almost $1000 for it, and it was almost as big as a copier.  I charged $2.00 for the first page and $1.00 each additional, to send or recieve.  We sold lots of balloons, too.  I have a complete paranoia over balloons now.  Too many popped in my face over the years.  Now I can’t stand them!  I actually get anxiety when I’m around latex balloons!  All the boxes on the floor are packages folks have brought in to send via UPS. We also had contracts with the phone company and the Gas and Electric company so that folks could come in and pay their bills.  I had this business for 5 years, and then sold it.

So, the 80′s for me were my 20′s, getting married, starting a family, starting a business.  Pretty boring stuff, really.  But that’s what life is, eh?  We were happy, and that’s what mattered.

I feel like I know you… almost well enough to name my daughter after you.

The pic of your Mom is the best!!!

  • Great post…enjoyed it a lot.

  • I LOVE THOSE PICTURES! I especially like the one of your mother, whom you look just like. But I think my favorite is w/you and hubby walking along the beach.

You have changed much, have you? Except you used to kinda resemble a Mennonite woman. ;)

  • Wow, you’re lucky to have so many pictures of the 80′s!  My collection is thin at best.  I took plenty, but getting them developed was another story!

RYC:  I don’t know why he asked that, but here is my response on his blog “RYC:  I HAVE pots and pans, I cook my pasta in a POT, and sometimes in the spring, I POT plants, but no, I don’t smoke pot.”

I was thinking it must be about the being a peace-nik ink blot test dealy. . . you know how peace-niks, and pot go together, right?  LOL  Big hugs~K.K.

  • ryc: Yes, those are Chacos! I swear by them — they are the only shoes I really can’t live without.

I am sorry for not having the time to look you up while I was in town — had I known we were going to stop there, I’d have called ya!

awesome picture post of your life in the 80s…..

  • oh I loved this post!!!! this was a good idea *winks*

  • Old memories to cherish. New memories to come. :lip_kiss:

  • I can’t hear your voice, but I can only imagine the deep pain.  God Bless you girl.

All cops are jokers…or extremely sarcastic (me included).  I’m sure you had a great time in the 80′s.  Me..hmm it was the best period of my life (when it comes to feelin young).   You are such a positive person…I dont know how you do it but you make everything so easy going.

  • these memories are totally precious!  i think the photo of you two on the beach would have to be my favorite…with the sprinkler one a hilarious second. lol

  • So much to say.  First…whats with that outfit he has on in the first pic?  I’m expecting either a strip to come or a bit of village people:)

I can see where you get your humor:)  And I would never have guessed about the pentacostal background.  My mominlaw and all her family were raised as such and only half practice still, some more strictly than others.

You look happy.  That’s what strikes me most.  No matter all you’ve gone through, you still come out happy, smiling, even when sad.  Admirable:)

  • Do you own another business now?

Hey… when are you going to get your sister to blog anymore??

  • I hit 20 half way through the 80s. Got married and was on the road to divorce in the 80s. Had two kids in the 80s. Busy period.

  • Those are great pics  :peace:  Its not boring, its your life

  •      RYC:  So you were taking payments for PG&E in 1988??!   Thanks to you and the payments you took I was able to pay for my wedding in 1988 (well part of it anyway)!

  • (((((((hugs))))))))   :bigbounce:

  • I was only in the 6th grade in 84. I like your perspective on the 80′s…innocence. Love the pic of your mom.

  • The 80′s, you were and still are beautiful, it’s that smile! 11lb baby, WOW. my little girl weighed just 3!!! made me think of my 80s, I moved to Italy from GB. I’d have some stories to tell. I’ll put my thinking cap on and let you know, only the best naturally

  •   Lovely 80′s photos! I graduated the year before you, in 1980.  I loved the photos of you and your beautiful family.  –Wow! An 11 lb baby!  and you are so very tiny…..:)  :clown:  Your life did not look boring to me at all. Rather, it looked as if it was filled with wonder, love and beauty………the things most important!

Thanks for sharing this beautiful post!

    Have a wonderful weekend. :2beers:

  • For pic of Bob in the garden and your comment, “Yes, he was nuts like this all the time.” – and = ME!

Are you still a strict Pentecostal? How’d ya meet Bob? How’d he propose? I think you should blog about this. We love to hear about you and Bob. Also, I know you met Rick via internet but tell us all about it too. What day in August did you and Bob get married? The 18th? Like me and my Ubby?

You were such a cutie, so young and fresh and wholesome. What happened? You looked like your mom.

Answer all of my questions, Bobbers. I wanna know.

    love ya! *hugs*
